Fans of Emmerdale were overcome with emotion as a beloved character “made a shocking return from the dead.”

Fans of Emmerdale were moved when a well-known character made an unexpected “return from the dead.”

Since her debut on the show in 2004, Charlie Hardwick’s beloved soap character has been a mainstay. Throughout her tenure on the program, Val dealt with a multitude of complex storylines as the vocal partner of Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell).

She dealt with everything from an HIV diagnosis to many turbulent relationships, so her time in the Dales was certainly chaotic. But when she was removed from the show in a horrific helicopter crash in 2015, her stint was brutally ended. On that dreadful day, Val died in a stunning scene from the House of Mirrors; she was mortally wounded by a shattered glass fragment when she bravely protected her sister Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen).

Viewers were heartbroken by the depiction of her death, and actor Charlie even bemoaned how “really hurt” she felt that Emmerdale directors had decided to end her narrative in such a cruel way.

A beloved character on Emmerdale was Val Pollard.

However, after being absent for over a decade, Val figuratively “reappeared” in the community after almost 10 years. Figures Eric and Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) visited the graveyard in the episode that aired on Wednesday, August 14, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Eric came to a stop next to Val’s final resting spot while Victoria took a moment to recall her late father Jack. Suddenly, from a speaker concealed in her ornate headstone, Val’s voice could be heard singing Frank Sinatra’s My Way.

As usual, Eric was witty, saying, “Sorry, Valerie always gets a bit gobby when I clean her up!”

Viewers of Emmerdale were clearly touched by a recent tribute to the late Val Pollard. Social media users were flooding the platform with heartfelt posts from their fans. One fan said, “Aww, both Eric and Victoria are remembering Val and Jack, respectively. Both renowned characters from Emmerdale.”

Eric went to see Val’s tomb

“I heard Val’s voice for the first time in 9 years in tonight’s ep and I’m in bits,” said another enthusiast. In addition, a kind remark was made by a different viewer, who said, “Wish Val hadn’t been killed off!”

In 2015, Charlie, who portrayed Val, told The Mirror specifics of her exit from Emmerdale. Thinking back on her departure, she admitted, “I adored Emmerdale. I made the decision to go.”

She said, “I have to say I was absolutely shocked when I found out they were going to kill Val,” expressing her amazement at the writer’s choice for her character.

“I think when you spend most of your life addressed and behaving like somebody else, then you find out that they’re going to savagely annihilate her I was really hurt.”
