Fans of EastEnders are reliving 2003 as they remember a spin-off DVD featuring the renowned Slater family.
Reddit users are sharing their recollections of the one-off special Slaters in Detention, in which Big Mo (Laila Morse), Kat (Jessie Wallace), Little Mo (Kacey Ainsworth), Lynne (Elaine Lordan), and Michelle Ryan’s character Zoe Slater spent the night in a jail cell.
The Slaters waited to be picked up from the station, reminiscing about their days on the Square after being arrested during a drunken “school disco” themed night out.
Naturally, while the women were being dragged in, the policemen on duty had no idea what they were getting into. Kat was quickly utilizing her one phone call to get pizza to the station, and they were running ragged.
Viewers were treated to montages of some of the most memorable moments from the Slaters’ past, including Little Mo’s ordeal at the hands of Trevor Morgan (Alex Ferns), Mo’s feud with Pat Butcher (Pam St Clement), Lynne’s relationship with Gary Hobbs (Ricky Groves), and the discovery that Kat was Zoe’s mother.
In the conclusion of the spin-off, Charlie Slater (Derek Martin) saved the day, but he was horrified to see his other daughter, Belinda, taken into custody for a different crime.
One Reddit member reminisced about the classic DVD special, saying, “My sister and I used to watch this all the time when we were little.” The sentimentality!
“How could we ever forget?” said another.
Over the years, there have been several more EastEnders spin-offs, with Kat appearing in one of them. In the contentious television series Redwater, Kat traveled to Ireland with Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) in order to find the son Kat was unaware she had.
Show favorites Ricky Butcher (Patsy Palmer and Sid Owen) and Bianca Jackson were the focus of a spin-off series titled Last Tango in Walford.
Civvy Street, the original EastEnders spin-off, debuted on Boxing Day of 1988. It provided viewers with an insight into the early lives of Lou Beale, Ethel Skinner, and Reg Cox.
EastEnders has switched from using DVDs to TikTok in recent times, releasing two miniseries concurrently with the show’s ongoing storylines. The circumstances leading up to Anna Knight’s (Molly Rainford) drink being drugged were exposed in the most current, drugged.
With so much nostalgia, let’s go.
