“It’s a better place to be.”

In an appearance on Lorraine, Lisa Riley, an Emmerdale star, talked candidly about reaching her nine-year sober milestone.

Riley said in an interview with presenter Ranvir Singh on Thursday, August 15, that she turned to alcohol as a “self medicate” when her mother passed away.

“I’ve talked about this a lot. Riley remarked, “I was using alcohol as a form of self-medication.” “I wasn’t sleeping because I’d lost my mum and I wasn’t coping very well.”

Riley, who plays Emmerdale’s Mandy Dingle, claims that before giving up completely, she was taking two bottles of Malbec per night to aid with her sleep.

Riley stated of the approaching anniversary: “I’m going to be nine years sober, I just stopped drinking for the good and the better for me.” Riley will celebrate turning nine on Monday. I like the sober version of me. I never imagined that I would be sitting here with you now, declaring that I will turn nine years clean on Monday.”

Riley stated that she would play games with herself to see how long she could go without drinking, adding that “all of a sudden you become obsessed.” Riley explained that she couldn’t handle situations without alcohol.

“I never thought that I’d be here now, I love it,” she said. “The fake me has completely gone and I don’t ever want to have that back because it’s a better place to be.”

Riley discussed her opinions on Paddy and Mandy Dingle’s future in another section of the interview after a stressful day at the wedding.

As viewers are aware, Mandy’s employment as an online dominatrix was made public, almost causing Paddy and Mandy’s wedding to be called off. Nevertheless, the couple did end up being married in a touching ceremony.

Riley hinted to Mandy’s dominatrix job by saying, “The things they give Mandy to do are out there, a little bit bonkers, a little bit crazy, and there’s more to come.”
