Popular Coronation Street character Andy Carver met a terrible death prior to actor Oliver Farnworth joining Emmerdale as new character John Sugden.

When Andy Carver was a cast member of Coronation Street, he was a major figure.

When the character first appeared on the ITV soap opera, he was Gavin Rodwell, Michael Rodwell’s (played by Les Dennis) son. In an attempt to pull a practical joke on Michael, Andy had taken on the identity of Gavin, who was in reality his roommate.

Nevertheless, Andy and Michael eventually became quite close, which prevented Andy from being honest about his true identity. Even after learning the truth in 2015, Andy still thought of Michael as a father figure.

In 2016, Andy surmised that serial murderer Pat Phelan had a hand in Michael’s heart attack death. He attempted to show that Pat was the cause of all that transpired, but Pat kidnapped him and assaulted him because he was afraid he would be discovered. Pat was unable to carry out the murder, so he left him imprisoned in the basement.

Last night, Oliver Farnworth made his John Sugden debut.

In order to get his release, Andy promised to help Pat assassinate his old business partner Vinny Ashford. However, Pat ultimately betrayed Andy by shooting him, which resulted in Oliver Farnworth leaving Coronation Street.

Oliver has since joined Emmerdale in the role of the enigmatic John Sugden, Victoria Sugden’s half-brother.

He declared, “I’ve been here, there, and everywhere,” in reference to his arrival. I’ve worked on every set, driven vans on location, and gotten into all kinds of trouble. It has been fantastic, and everyone has made me feel really welcome. It’s been really pleasant. He’s rather mysterious.

“There is a great deal about him. I continue to learn things about him. We shortly learn that he served in the military. He is a proud homosexual man. He truly is a lone wolf. I believe that he has truly built barriers and refused to let anyone in throughout the years. And it is his type of self-preservation strategy. He objects to anybody approaching him closely.”
